Where did we go so wrong with understanding touch? Why has it become so taboo, so sexualized, and so wrong? Where did we loose the obvious line of what is healthy, needed, nurturing touch vs an offensive act? Touch is a core human need of nurturance and soothing and most people are starving for it.
We can say more with 5 seconds of touch than we can with 5 hours of action or words. Never underestimate the healing powers of a hug, a hand to the shoulder, a tender wiping of someone’s tears, or a squeeze of encouragement. There is vulnerability in both giving and receiving touch that tends to complicate the most natural act of nurturance, reassurance, and soothing. Don’t be afraid to step into it and let yourself feel the power of it.
